Preset Details
This preset bundle includes all 3 volumes of Michael Pope's Meris MercuryX Presets. With 99 hyper creative reverb and modulation tones, you'll find a new creative spark as you are playing live or recording a new album in the studio.
I have organized sounds with similar tones/themes into groups to make things easy to find, and you’ll see that while each preset is unique unto itself, there are similarities between some sounds. This is intentional, as during the creation process, I would stumble into tones I really liked and then develop them into a few different variations.
Additionally, you will also find that several sounds are not specifically centered around being a reverb, and in many cases, you can toggle the reverb on/off with the hold modifier. Having the ability to be more than just a reverb is one of the many things I love about the MX. In most cases, I don’t want a huge outer space reverb sound on top of my guitar, so the ability to use it as a compressor, vibrato, EQ, lo-fi machine, or anything else is really what makes this pedal so great for me.
PRESET GROUPS
xCHVRCHxVERBx:
This is a collection of reverbs that I most often use for Sunday morning music. For much of my time as a player in this genre, I’ve relied on having 2 reverb sounds that can scale up and down as needed, and you will see both of these sounds increase in volume as you move through them. The first one is long and swirly (Prism) and is identified by its titles being named after the various SpaceX rockets. The other (’78 Hall) is more of a straightforward reverb sound that is a bit shorter than the previous. It is identified by its titles being named after the different NASA space shuttles.
xDOINKSx:
Here is a collection of spring reverbs. I spent some time referencing my favorite classic examples of spring reverb and emulated them as closely as I could with the MX. They obviously can’t be exact replications, but they’ll get you in the ballpark. Additionally, I’ve made some spring sounds of my own that are included as well.
xLO-FIx:
I love lo-fi guitar tones. They work well in many different kinds of music and are just fun to create and play around with. Here you’ll find tapey, compressed, warbly, fluttery goodness.
xETHERx:
While I love this pedal for so much more than huge ethereal sounds, I’d be remiss to not have a couple for when they are appropriate. Here I’ve made a few of the typical ethereal sounds we all gravitate towards and use, but there’s some fun/interesting stuff in here as well.
xMOVEMENTx:
This is a collection of sounds that move around in various ways. If you wanna see how they move, well, you just have to play them and find out. Again, there’s some typical/classic examples as well as new ideas.
xHAZEYx:
The “Hazy” effect is maybe my favorite effect category on this pedal. It just does really cool stuff no matter where in the signal path you put it. It inspired a few of its own sounds that show what this effect can do.
xSHAWTY’Sx:
Here are a handful of shorter reverbs that work well for overdriven/fuzzy tones. They sound great for clean tones too, but I think they do some pretty cool things when things are overdriven.
xSTAINDGLASSx:
I really like this algorithm even though I don’t often use it, so I made a few sounds themed around cathedrals.
xCOMPSx:
When most of us (myself included) use a compressor pedal, it’s common to have them pretty early on in our signal chain. However, one thing I’ve really come to love is having one at the very end. It has a really cool way of bringing forward delay trails and anything weird in front of it. I also love how grabby the comp in this pedal sounds, but the main thing I’m stoked about is no longer having to rip up the compressor that’s at the beginning of my board. Plus, it’s stereo… sick.
xCHORUSx:
If you have a general idea of how chorus works, then you’ll notice that there’s several ways to create that effect within this pedal. This collection explores 2 of those ways and then stacks them on top of each other as the last preset. I heard Dan Huff say he used to use 2 chorus units at the same time, which to me sounds like a cloud of hairspray.
xDELAYx:
While I always have a pedal dedicated solely to delay, I think it’s really cool that you can use the pre-delay in the MX as a delay. Much like a few of the other groups, I’ve made some typical/classic tones as well as some that are designed to stack on top of the delays I normally use. I’ve always been pretty straightforward with my delays… never been much of a ping pong guy either… but I do think these ‘stackers’ can add some cool stereo imaging when you want things to feel nice and wide. Make sure to match the BPM of these presets to whatever it is on your dedicated delay. Or don’t—that’s neat too.
xLOWBOYx:
The low octave in this pedal sounds particularly cool to me, so I wanted a couple instances of it for when I want a weird doubled effect. In most cases, I would just play a double instead of using a pedal, but sometimes the pedal just sounds cooler.
xPANMANx:
If anyone can do it, the Panman can. I guess I could have grouped this in with the movement presets, but it would have thrown off doing everything in threes, and we can’t have that, can we? This is an approximation of the Soundtoyz plug we all know and love and is a cool effect to now have on the pedalboard. I hate to throw it out on its own, but he’ll be ok.
